The best way, in order to enter into training on a regular basis or just find out about Aikido, is certainly the participation in a beginner course at the Soseki Aikido Dojo.
Here one can make oneself familiar with the fundamental ideas of the Aikido.
We open our studio twice a year to the general public in the form of beginner courses; these classes are beloved and have received high praise from the participants in the past years this will give you a small idea of what aikido is and could be in your life.
- Classic Japanese warm-ups
- Basic Movement sequences
- Proper falling and rolling techniques
- Self defence (Passive phase and Active phase)
- Japanese wooded sword (Bokken) Japanese short stick (Jo)
- Oh, and just plain fun as well (maybe that should be the first point on the list)
Since the movements at the beginning appear very unusual and complex, we stress the important aspect of becoming centred, a technique which will greatly help you even outside of Aikido after that you can then relax; once you are centred you will better understand openly how to approach Aikido.
There are always two to three experienced Aikidoka in beginner training also; their experience makes it simpler for a beginner to learn and understand the basic steps.
In beginner training somewhat more is explained than in normal training. Nevertheless we put more value on seeing and copying than on cognitive understanding.
At the end of a beginner course one is well prepared, to enter into general training. Parallel to the course the possibility exists for participating in regular training sessions.
